Located at an elevation of 1,000 feet in the famed Rocks District of Walla Walla Valley, Funk Vineyard is a 5-acre gem that has earned renown for producing some of the region’s most extraordinary Syrahs. Planted to the Phelps Clone using a rare trellising system that yields highly concentrated berries, Funk Vineyard Syrah combines lush pomegranate flavors with savory layers of charcuterie, scorched earth and cigar leaf.

Wine Profile

Production Notes
Varietal Composition: 100% Syrah
Winemaker Notes
Showcasing the character and complexity of Syrah from Funk Vineyard in the Rocks District, this wine offers a fascinating bouquet of huckleberry, blueberry, lavender and violet, all underscored by a deep, rich earthiness. The dark berry notes are echoed on the robust, mouthcoating palate, where flavors of blue fruit, plum, olive and forest floor glide to a supple, polished finish.
Production
A cold, dry winter was followed by an equally cool spring, which led to a slightly later-than-normal budbreak and bloom. Following mid-June rains that had a modest impact on the size of the crop, the weather turned hot in July and August, spurring the grapes to a long, sustained period of ripening. Our early ripening Syrah from The Rocks District offered beautiful flavor and color development, with polished tannins. With smaller overall yields, our Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon produced wines of tremendous concentration and power, with great ripeness and flavor development. To ensure the exceptional nature of all of our 2020 wines, we assessed all of our wines using both sensory and laboratory analysis to ensure that they were in no way affected by smoke from the Oregon wildfires.
